Top Ten Best Years of the Last Decade

It's the end of the first decade of the new millennium, and a time for endless top ten lists. Well, I've boiled them down to one of the most important lists of all... The Top Ten Best Years of the Last Decade.

Starting from the bottom...

Number 10 ... "2001"

- A fun year in some ways, but mainly I didn't like the part where the most horrific attack on American soil took place and the whole country fell apart. Zoolander was pretty damn funny though...

Number 9 ... "2006"

- Red Buttons dies...damn you world! Damn YOU!


Number 8 ... "2004"

- A bummer election, a horrible Tsunami, only made worse by an Olympics.

Number 7 ... "2000"

- What can I say, there was a lot of hype that didn't pay off, like the Y2K bug, and the end of the world.

Number 6 ..."2007"

- This year marked the end of celebrities dying of "something" and ushered in the new era of celebrities dying of "something to be determinded in next 5 months".


Number 5 ... "2002"

- I like the "2" at the first part of the the year but the "2" at the end just seems like more of the same.

Number 4 ... "2005"

- Ah, hello? I liked this year better when it was called "2004". Burn!

Number 3 ... "2003"

- This year marked the beginning of a very unpopular war that never should have happened, the Clone War.

Number 02 ... "2008"

Upside, we no longer have to blame everything on George Bush. Downside, We no longer get to blame everything on George Bush.

Number 01... "2009" - I can finally buy Michael Jackson's music without feeling guilty!

In our film "Tracy" we had a scene featuring one of the characters secret comic book collection. We created over 30 original comic book covers, most of which go completely unnoticed in the 3 to 4 minute scene. For the next few months I'll post one a week so that they can finally get their due.

It's the end of Josh Cooley month! My good friend Josh did several of the comics for Tracy, and I'm going to round out the year with his contributions. Tonight is a two for one! Check out more of Josh's work on his blog.

Josh did this one based on She - Hulk but in an intentionally sexist way.



This is one of my favorites, it's based on the crappy free comics one might get at the dentist, the eye doctor, or a big boy restaurant.



Well, that wraps up 2009, the year of Josh Cooley, let us move on to some younger more talented, handsomer, artist and never think of Josh again.

Here's a new painting from my series featuring the toys of my seven pound dog Carol. Carol got this one at her doggie daycare as a Halloween gift. She tore it's bones off just hours after this was painted! Very scary!

Dog Toy Painting Series ( Guest Artist Carol Painting)

I don't have a dog toy painting this week (Though I did have an extra one last Wednesday). Here's a great addition to the "Guest Artist Carol Painting" series. This painting of Carol was done by artist/actor/friend, Lou Romano and features Carol going for a walk near Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

Christmas Tradition

It's time again for one of my favorite Christmas traditions, each December 23rd Michele and I rent a car and drive to Marin Joe's to have a few drinks and soak in the local Christmas spirit. Marin Joe's has a great old bar with an awesome tough, middle aged, fat bartender who saunters over to the piano every now and then, slams his meat hooks on the keys, and performs the most delicate, beautiful Christmas music you've ever heard.

Last year at Marin Joe's we didn't see Santa the night before, the night before Christmas, we saw Santana. The classic guitar god was reading a book and eating dinner under a giant flat screen TV showing a football game.

The year before that we watched Holiday Karaoke sung by what looked like the cast of "The Ice Storm" lead by our favorite piano playing bartender. So as we enjoy our tradition, we hope you're enjoying yours.

I did this one based on my actual childhood cartoon character named Fuzzy. Everything in the 80's was called Wuzzy, or Buzzy, and Fuzzy was my contribution to that era.

I did this one based on the 1960's military comics. I also love the idea of comics books that suggest that a comic character could have anything to do with an actual historical event, like all those tasteful comics that came out after 9/11.

I did this one based on the classic Jim Davis character Garfield as well as my cat Monkey. Both were slightly over weight, but Monkey didn't eat lasagna, no cat eats lasagna, I don't think Jim Davis ever had a cat.

Mannequin Photo Shoot 2

Next time you're at the mall try this out, take a photo of a headless mannequin, then take a photo of your head under the same light and let photoshop fun take it from there. This week's mannequin photo shoot special guest is my Brother Bill Scanlon. We shot this one at the Oakland Mall in Michigan...
