Dan's Found Caricature

Every now and then one finds a picture, person, plant or mineral that looks just like oneself. My friends call these Found Caricatures, and for the next few weeks I'll be posting Found Caricatures of myself each Friday. Please let me know when you find them successful, or when you think they’re crap.

I was shocked to see how much this "goofy" plumber model looked like me. Kind of sucks he's supposed to be a fat slob and not a Disney prince or American Gladiator. Oh well, to make this into an actual costume of me you'll need to add a plaid shirt, brown pants, and really small hands and feet.

Happy Halloween!

I saw a picture of this guy in the paper a few years ago and thought he kind of looked like me with a weird crappy smile on my face. I did some research and found that he was a filmmaker named Troy Duffy, and that the photo was advertising a documentary about his story, a film called "Overnight", which I HIGHLY recommend. It's a great cautionary tale for those planning on getting exactly what they want, and ruining that opportunity by being a giant ragging asshole.

My friend Jason found this one reading a children's book to his son called This is San Francisco. It's perfect because, like the cartoon man in the picture, I live in San Francisco, I take the cable car to and from work every day, but it's slightly less then perfect because unlike the cartoon man, I don't have hair on my head, but we do have the same beard and shirt.

I met this nice guy at a bar a year or so ago and thought he kind of looked like me with a beard, and a slightly larger head.

Dog Toy Painting Series/Dan Found Caricature

No dog painting this week, as I'm in Michigan for a Tracy cast and crew screening this morning in Royal Oak. But I do have a new found caricature of me that was discovered by a guy who works with my brother. I'm the guy on the left (I think).

If you find a good one, send it my way!

Congratulations and thanks so much to everyone in Michigan who worked on Tracy, oh and Happy Fourth of July!

This Week's New Yorker Caption Contest

Here is my entry in this weeks New Yorker Caption Contest. Each week they provide the image and you provide the caption.

"I give this group the same pills I put in your coffee every morning."

* By the way, this is also a damn good found caricature of me...

Here are the leftovers...

They’re adapting to their new surroundings beautifully.

These guys work much harder than the interns and we don’t have to feel as bad about torturing them.

And when I dress them in tiny overalls, they act stupid.

If they stop researching I give them the same shock I give you.

Here's this week's nominees...

"First, we discuss my percentage of any water you find, real or imagined."
Submitted by Jeff Joseph
Melville, N.Y.

"Just so we're straight, this is a billable mirage."
Submitted by Brooks Heintzelman
Wilmington, N.C.

"Impressive audition, but we're going with the camel."
Submitted by Benjamin Levy
Palm Springs, Fla.

I entered...

"We're prepared to offer you a glass of water for the rights to your story."

Dan's Found Caricature

Every now and then one finds a picture, photo, plant or mineral that looks just like one's self. This is the last of this month's found caricatures that look like me. Please let me know when you find them successful, or when you think they’re crap.

This is Scott Adsit, he plays a producer on NBC's 30 rock, I love the show, but I have to admit he's my least favorite part of the show, mainly because he looks like me, and apparently I hate myself. We'll that's it for the September found caricatures, I hope you enjoyed them, hopefully they'll be more to come in the future!

Dan's Found Caricature

Every now and then one finds a picture, photo, plant or mineral that looks just like one's self. I'm going to try to post a new FOUND caricature of myself every Saturday morning for the next month. Please let me know when you find them successful, or when you think they’re crap.

This classic A & W restaurant character bares a sad and slightly fat resemblance to my current state. As a kid my Uncle owed a local A & W drive in chain located in Michigan. In it's earliest years almost every member of my family worked there at one point in their young life; my Aunts, my Uncles, even my mom worked there as a roller skating waitress serving trays of greasy food to cars full of drunk teenagers. When my brother and I were very little kids, we use get to go to the drive thru on our birthdays and my Uncle would let us order as many large root beers and foot long chili dogs as we could choke down. In the early 90's my Uncle retired and sold the restaurant, but it still holds a special place in my clogged heart.Viva La A & W!!

I found this post card at a local art show and immediately noticed a likeness between myself wearing my glasses and a caricature I assume was drawn of an artist named David Coffman.

This caricature was drawn for an art show in San Francisco that opened September 5th and runs through October 5th located at D - structure at 520 haight st. @ fillmore. I don't know anything about the show, but if you're in the area, check out the Duck!!! show.

My wife bought this mug in China town, and I couldn't help notice the resemblance of this creepy narrow headed fellow.

Dan's Found Caricature

I was walking down Polk street with Michele the other morning, and a thin oily guy jumped out at us, pointed violently at his right eye and cackled, “Hey, I got it, you look like Michael B. Hayden with a little Russian in him!”
Now I have no idea who Michael B. Hayden is, but I google image searched him and well, I just don't know that it adds up. Still I want to thank the crazy homeless guy for his suggestion, and thank him for being such a big fan of our blog.

Happy Fourth of July!

Dan’s Brother’s Found Caricature

I’ve run out of new pictures of people, or things that look like me, but I’ve got some good ones of friends of mine. Here is a great look a like for my Brother Bill. Found this guy waiting for the bus, and had to craftily snap this picture.

Dan's LAST Found Caricature

Well, it's my Birthday today, and I'm sad to say this is the end of the "Dan Found Caricatures" series. I've run out of pictures of people, plants, or animals that look like me. That being said, if I find a good found caricature of myself, (or if you do) I'll be sure to post it on Friday night for old time sake. In the mean time I may start doing a few "special guest" found caricatures. So here it is, the LAST Dan Found Caricature, this one was painted on the outside of a local San Francisco bar and I have to say, it's my favorite! enjoy!

Dan's Found Caricature

This weeks found caricature was sent into me by a reader of the blog that thought I looked like Daily Show corespondent Rob Corddry. So if I ever kill anybody famous we can be sure Mr. Corddry will be playing the funnier, better looking version of me in that made for TV movie. Thanks Mnmears!

If you find a person, plant, fruit, piece of garbage etc. you think looks like me, email it to me at tracyproduction@yahoo.com

Make them plenty mean, those are the funniest ones.

Dan's Found Caricature / Auction Update!

As you may have seen in my earlier post, my friends and I created some artwork for an auction to fund new digs in the office. I'm happy to say the auction was a lot of fun, and a huge success! My paintings did well, and I even entered a last minute piece I'd been holding onto for awhile in a "buy now" $25 instant purchase pool. I drew this picture two years ago for a different auction, and I'm glad it found a good home tonight.
But perhaps the most interesting moment of the evening was the unexpected, slightly unfortunate, and incredibly timely, FOUND CARICATURE of me discovered at the auction by a few friends. The rather racy piece was created by my friend Chris and is entitled "Italian Dinner".

See you next week!
